Mediation & Arbitration Attorneys in Brooklyn
Helping Clients Avoid the Stress of Litigation
Mediation and arbitration are two ways to resolve disputes through cooperative negotiation rather than litigation. They are designed to be non-adversarial processes to help the parties positively resolve their dispute. Mediation and arbitration can be effective in all types of family law cases, including child custody and visitation, child support, property division, alimony, and other agreements that must be reached in divorce.
At Arnel Law Firm, our Brooklyn mediation and arbitration lawyers can represent you during these processes to ensure that your voice is heard and that your rights and interests are protected. We also represent clients throughout Kings County, Manhattan, and Queens.

How Mediation Works
Mediation involves a third party — often a lawyer — who is specially trained in alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The neutral mediator attempts to help you and the other party resolve issues by talking them out and expressing your opinions in a constructive way.
Unlike a court trial that pits one spouse against another, mediation seeks to resolve issues through open communication and mutual agreement. A typical mediation session lasts anywhere from an hour to a full day.
Numerous studies have shown that couples filing for a divorce who choose the path of negotiation or mediation are more mutually satisfied with the terms of their divorce than those who receive court orders issued by a judge.
What Is Arbitration?
Arbitration is similar to mediation in that it uses an impartial third party and ADR techniques to avoid litigation. In arbitration, both parties present the issues they want resolved to an arbitrator, who is usually a current or former attorney or judge with extensive experience in family law. The parties have the right to select the arbitrator and the location of the arbitration.
