It is common that parents want to do their parts in efforts to provide for their children. However, individuals who are required to make child support payments may find themselves having a hard time keeping up with their obligations. These situations can prove difficult for all parties involved as children and custodial parents may be missing needed income, and the parent missing payments could face jail time.
It was recently reported that four men in New York were taken into custody on charges relating to child support. Two of the men were still being held in a county jail after their arrests due to being unable to meet their respective bail amounts. One man's charge was reported as being failure to obey a child support order, but the other man's allegations were not listed.
The two additional men were taken into custody but later released on their own recognizance. One of these men was also charged with failure to follow a child support order, and the second man had a bench warrant out for his arrest due to non-support. It was unclear whether any of these individuals had obtained legal counsel.
It may be prudent for these men and other individuals in similar situations to consider speaking with experienced attorneys on topics relating to child support. Finding out information relating to support modifications could help struggling individuals reduce the risk of being arrested for non-payment by seeking a support amount that is more manageable for them to meet. Interested New York residents may wish to utilize local reliable resources to gain such knowledge.
