New York fans of the band Oasis may be interested in a case involving the former frontman for the band. The singer, Liam Gallagher, and his former lover, freelance journalist Liza Ghorbani, had a child support arrangement for their 18-month-old daughter, Gemma. Gemma is one of four children fathered by Gallagher, whose children all have different mothers. Gallagher and Ghorbani met when she wrote a profile of him for the New York Times. At the time, Gallagher was still married.
Gallagher's lawyer, who has represented Rudy Giuliani and Martin Scorsese in family law cases, claims that Ghorbani has continually changed child support demands. He said that she was extremely difficult to please. Ghorbani's lawyer has said his client wants to have a deposition to better understand Gallagher's net worth.
The initial agreement between the two was for Gallagher to pay child support in the amount of $5,000 each month. A source said that Ghorbani is living with her parents and has them taking care of the child, who is 18 months old. The judge in the case allowed Gallagher to call in from London for the case, and he may be able to do so again in the future.
For those dealing with child support battles, it may become trying to try to negotiate a fair payment that will support the child and allow the custodial parent enough to financially maintain a home big enough for the child or children. In cases when child support seems too low, it may be worthwhile for a parent to talk to a family law attorney, who may be able to examine circumstances and assist the client in attempting to obtain a modification.
